LITERACY AND NUMERACY WORKSHOPS IN THE FOUNDATION STAGE
In 2012 we began to implement literacy and numeracy workshops in the Foundation Stage as a way of assessing focussed and planned activities.
These workshops which are now established at St Peter’s are activity/play-based with 4 or 5 planned activities. The children work in groups and each group visits the work stations, spending some time exploring the activities in an effort to practise and extend skills, whilst helping the adults to target and support individual learners.
The activities are linked to the literacy and numeracy planners for the term and are planned to suit the developmental stage of a P1/2 class as they progress throughout the year. Obvious differentiation takes into consideration the needs of individual children as well as emerging interests within the classroom setting.
