Caitlin Conquers Croker

After an exciting trip to GAA headquarters last weekend for the Ladies’ All Ireland Finals Day, we caught up with Caitlin from Primary Seven to hear how she got on.

Caitlin, tell us, how did you manage to get picked to play at such an important event?

My mum and coach filled out the application form from the LGFA (Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association), listing the reasons why I should be given a chance to play.

What was it like to be told that you would be playing on the pitch at Croke Park?

When I heard that I had been picked, I was so excited but nervous at the same time.

Have you been to Croke Park before?

Yes, I have been to Croke Park but only to watch Down play, that’s all.

Do you know anyone else who has played there?

Yes, I do.  My mum has played there, and the ladies’ and men’s teams like Down and Armagh.

How did you feel before you arrived at Croke Park?

Before we arrived, I felt so excited but a bit anxious too because I didn’t know who I was going to play against.

How would you describe your experience?

I would describe it as overwhelming.  Croke Park is huge!!  But I had so much fun.

Tell us what happened when you arrived.

Well, when I arrived, we had to find our seats and then at half time in the first match, I got to play!

I wonder if you would go back to play there again, if you had the chance?

Oh yes! I’d love to play there again, but for longer, like a whole match.  I’d love to play with the Down ladies and win!!

What will you remember most about your day?

The thing that I’ll remember most about my day was having fun with friends.  It really was good craic.

Thanks for the interview, Caitlin.  It sounds like you had an amazing experience.  Perhaps your big day out will inspire your St. Peter’s teammates to keep practising their skills.

You never know, we could be watching some home grown talent playing on the Big Croker Pitch in the not too distant future!

Caitlin what an amazing experience. Super memories for you to cherish forever.
