Hurlers and Camogs at Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Heats

On Friday 1st March, our hurlers and camogs made a trip to Silverbridge to take part in their Regional Indoor Blitz.

The mood was great and the craic was flying on the bus as we picked up players from St. Joseph’s Bessbrook, and then St. Malachy’s, Camlough.

Once everyone was warmed up, the games got going with some tough marking and very tight score lines.

The girls did exceptionally well. With only five St. Peter’s girls present, there were no substitutes to spare and no one was able to catch their breath for long – although Leona provided some nice shortbread to munch on between matches. Thanks, Leona!

The boys soon found their rhythm, showing the super efforts of afterschool training on a Monday afternoon and by those attending Craobh Rua, as heading into their final game they were sitting in a great position to qualify.

The match against St. Malachy’s Armagh was incredibly competitive, with both teams matching each other at every strike of the hurl. As the score line drew level, and with the seconds ticking away, St. Peter’s stepped up and provided a move that wouldn’t have looked out of place in Croke Park.

Oran, who found himself on the end of a tactical pass, raised his head, steadied his glance, and hooked the sliotar into the back of the net at a ferocious speed. In the next moment, the referee blew his whistle and with that the boys had secured their spot to the County Finals on 13th March.

Stay tuned for updates closer to the County Finals!
